{Spotlight Project} Maria Uses a Stencil to Create a Bokeh Effect

Welcome to my last spotlight project for 2015. Hope you are ready for the holidays and may have a little time for playing in your craft room soon! Today I will show you how I achieved a bokeh effect using a stencil. I actually created a rabble of butterflies with the bokeh technique.

STEP 1
I got out Fossilized Amber, Wild Honey, Abandoned Coral and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Inks and put down my Flutterby stencil to see where I wanted the embossing paste butterfly to be on the final project (left third).

STEP 2
Cut and inked up a piece of Neenah white CS really well. Then I splattered some water onto it and let it react.

STEP 3
Then it was time to create the bokeh effect. I sponged white pigment ink through various butterflies all over the panel, some heavily, some lightly inked. TIP: Flip the stencil over for, in this case, five additional butterfly images to choose from.

STEP 4
Positioned the stencil to get the large butterfly where I wanted it on my panel and used painter's tape to cover the surrounding butterflies. This way I wouldn't get embossing paste where I didn't want it!

STEP 5
The last step was to add a sentiment from Bold Sentiments: Discover. I white heat embossed one part and stamped the secondary sentiment with gray Versafine ink. Adhered the panel to a blue cardbase and called it quits.

Easy peasy! Happy holidays and happy crafting!

Tschüss,
Maria
